NATV receives Groundbreaking Support from the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 25, 2007 Contact: Tara J. Ryan (Chickasaw/Choctaw), NATV’s Public Affairs Officer and Entertainment Industry Liaison Email: tjryan@natv.org Native American Television (NATV) Receives Groundbreaking Support from the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians It’s been a long time coming. Today it’s a lot closer to becoming a reality. Native American Television (NATV), the nationwide, nonprofit multimedia network and training organization providing all-indigenous television programming, has received a groundbreaking endorsement from the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians supporting the network’s $5 million fundraising campaign for 2007. The Affiliated Tribes, representing 55 Indian nations in six states, passed a resolution at their semi-annual conference on May 24 supporting NATV’s mission to create an Indian voice in television and educate young Native media professionals. The significance of such a public proclamation for the upstart network can’t be underestimated. “Getting out there and presenting Indians news and an Indian point-of-view is of the utmost importance,” says Ernie Stensgar (Coeur d’Alene), Chairman of the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians and NATV board member. “Although the concept has been out there, now is the time to present the truth about Indians and what we’re doing in the United States. Another important aspect is getting Indian reporters and news people behind the scenes. And that means from operating the cameras to doing all the technical aspects of all of this.” With the resolution, the Affiliated Tribes have committed to financially supporting NATV as it moves ever closer to officially launching this year. The network is currently working with partners and independent producers to provide content for its viewers—all Native, all the time, nationwide. These facts, plus their strategically located studio and training facilities based in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area, will shake the prevailing image most Americans have of Indians, notes NATV Board chairperson Dr. James May (United Keetoowah Band.) “That’s what NATV is aiming for—an opportunity to get our view out there. I see a real lack of being on equal footing with any other minority group. I see it all over the place,” he says. “The Affiliated Tribes of the Northwest have been really forward thinking on this matter. They’ve asked their tribes to support NATV monetarily and their students to come to Washington to do the training.” Stensgar concurs. “We challenge our tribal leaders to look at this program and buy off on it and recognize NATV for what it is. This is our chance to stand up and get our word out, to present the Indian voice to America and provide a better understanding of what we’re about. Maybe the American public will look at Indian people in a different light rather than looking at us with feathers.” Today that concept is a lot closer to being a reality thanks to the unequivocal support of the 55 nations comprising the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians. NATV—all Native, all the time--will soon be available to viewers from Alaska to Alabama, New Hampshire to New Mexico. The perception of Indians in the mass consciousness will never be the same. And that’s been a long time coming. The Board members quoted: Dr. James H. May (United Keetoowah Band) is Chairman of the Board. A member of the United Keetoowah Band of Cherokees, Dr. May is the first Native American to have graduated with a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Harvard University’s School of Business. He also holds a Doctorate from Columbia University in Library and Information Science, and Bachelors in Civil Engineering from Stanford University. Recently retired as Dean of the Center for Science, Technology, and Information Services at California State University in Monterey Bay, Dr. May is also involved with Native American Public Telecommunications, the National Museum of the American Indian, and the Native Media and Technology Network. The Stanford American Indian Alumni Association granted him the first award it has ever given, for his service to American Indians in the field of technology. Ernest Stensgar (Coeur d’Alene) is Chairman of the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians, and Northwest Regional Vice President for the National Congress of American Indians. The first tribal leader to be named to the Idaho Hall of Fame, Ernie was Chairman of his Tribal Council and of the Alliance of Idaho Tribes. A Vietnam Veteran, Ernie is the recipient of the Purple Heart. Please direct all inquiries regarding this press release, media and entertainment to, Tara J. Ryan, NATV’s Public Affairs Officer and Entertainment Industry Liaison at tjryan@natv.org. Native American Television (NATV) is a not-for-profit organization. To make a donation or for more information please visit the NATV website at: www.natv.org

He left the reservation and completed his degree at a "White" university and was fully integrated into "Hoquat" Society. Nobody who knew him suspected he could ever harm a fly, let alone kidnap a Senator's son. Any ethnicity that can pass for Native American. 2) TSKANAY / Lead / Female / Native American / 25-35 Tskanay (real name Mary Kletnik) knew Katsuk as Charlie and doesn't understand who he's become. Assertive, defiant, feminine, she was originally supposed to marry him in an arranged marriage. Any ethnicity that can pass for Native American. 3) ISH / Lead / Male / Native American / 50-70 Ish is the father figure of the reservation. He has been on the governing council for the last 20 years and people respect his authority because he is wise and forgiving at the same time. Still, certain acts are unacceptable... The Fox Entertainment Group (hereinafter "Fox") announces a new chapter in its campaign to identify and support promising writers from diverse backgrounds. Since 2001, Fox has accepted submission of TV "spec" scripts towards the selection of aspiring writers for a six-week program at Writer's Boot Camp ("WBC") in Los Angeles. As a part of the Boot Camp experience the selected writers have written an additional "spec" script under the supervision of WBC instructors and Fox Diversity executives. In the 2006 edition of Fox' writers outreach we do not wish to receive "spec" material based on series already on the air. In this new phase of our program, we are soliciting submission of original television pilot scripts. Writers selected for this program will be enrolled in a concentrated course at Writer's Boot Camp where the writer will receive up to six months of instruction and personal guidance from instructors and Fox Diversity executives. During that time ourhope will be to guide the writer through drafts of their original pilot towards the goall of a top- quality script that can be submitted to broadcast and cable networks for pilot consideration. We encourage all diverse writers with a story to tell, or writers of any color with a diverse series lead character in mind, to submit their scripts per the guidelines described on the Writer's Submission page on our website: http://fox.com/diversity/ PLEASE NOTE: We will accept submissions from March 15, 2006 through June 30, 2006. Submissions must be postmarked no later than June 30, 2006. The deadline for receiving submissions is July 7, 2006. Late submissions with be returned unopened. No phone calls, please. Submissions that do not meet the guidelines as articulated on our website will be returned.

January 12th Callbacks: TBD Shoots: 1 week (1/23 - 1/31) Location: NYC Usage: Pilot that could be picked up and aired. Rate: Principal $450, Day Player $180, Extra $75 + 10% agent fee Brief Synopsis: With spirituality being discussed in an open forum more than ever, it's no wonder that an ever-growing number of teens today consider themselves faithful. But ask a hundred young people the question "What is God" and you're sure to get at least hundred different answers. In this series we'll hear from teens and young adults who are asking that question no more. Through first-person narration, vivid recreations and creative imagery, these young people will describe in emotionally edgy detail, how at a time of joy, despair, or just plain apathy, a one-to-one encounter with God dramatically altered their lives and made them true believers. These people claim to hold tangible proof of the existence of a higher power. Whether to believe them or not is the choice that the audience will have to make.
